Experience the Tradition at the Christmas Carriage Parade

On Saturday, December 10 at 2 p.m., the Town of Parker and the Colorado Driving Society will host the annual Christmas Carriage Parade. This year’s holiday parade is themed a “Beary Special Christmas,” and will be attended by thousands.

The festivities for this exciting day will begin at noon with live ice sculpture carving, a holiday farmer’s market, a petting zoo, pony rides and pictures with Santa. Pictures with Santa will be located in O’Brien Park in the gazebo from noon until 1:30 p.m. and again from 3 to 4 p.m. after the parade. Pictures will be $5, cash only and the petting zoo is free.

This spectacular, all-equestrian, holiday parade will begin in downtown Parker on Mainstreet at 2 p.m. Come and see the ice sculpture at Ruth’s Chapel while you await this special parade of decorated horse-drawn carriages, wagons, riding groups, minis and marching bands from across Colorado. Join the fun on this magical afternoon when the streets are lined with families and eager children hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa. Many thanks to Children’s Hospital Colorado for helping Santa find his way to Parker to be in the parade.

Road closures will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and include E. Mainstreet, Pikes Peak Drive, Pine Drive and Victorian Circle. Parking is available in the downtown Parker area, however all lots within the parade route will be closed to exit and entry from 1 to 4 p.m. Event-goers who do not plan to stay for activities or shopping after the parade should park outside the parade route.

Free Seminar for parents with kids who have autism

In this free seminar, parents will get help understanding how to secure insurance coverage in Colorado for behavior, speech and occupational therapy for a child with autism. This seminar will provide important information about the new Colorado Health Insurance Mandated Autism Treatment (HIMAT) Law.

During the event, Trumpet Behavioral Health will provide FREE childcare and fun activities for children with autism and their siblings provided by experienced behavior therapists.

Autism topics will include:

  • Overview of HIMAT Law for Colorado autism treatment.
  • What autism treatment services are covered under Colorado’s insurance mandate.
  • Who it applies to.
  • How to find out if your child is eligible.
  • How to maximize your insurance benefits for your child’s autism treatment.
  • How to talk to your employer and your insurance provider about your rights to coverage.
  • Under HIMAT, insurance coverage for a child’s Colorado autism treatment now allows for up to $34,000 per year of behavioral therapies. Parents can learn how to maximize their benefits, meet other parents, enjoy light refreshments and get answers while our expert staff provides childcare and fun activities for your kids.

It’s just not the Holidays until Mayor David Casiano flips the switch and lights all of the beautiful Christmas Holiday lighting in O’Brien Park on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Residents, guests and visitor will enjoy performances from local music groups and holiday treats from various Parker bakeries and coffee shops.  The event is always free and everyone is asked to please bring a canned good for the Parker Task Force food drive.

The community performance of Handel’s Messiah in Parker is as always the first Sunday of December with full orchestra and solo’s and marks one of many marvelous local events that highlight the Christmas Holiday season in Parker CO.

All high school students and adults of all ages are welcome to come and participate in the chorus of this piece of sacred music written by G.F. Handel performed with full orchestra.

If you have a Messiah score (Schirmer preferred) bring it; if not, Kurt Stroman and the Parker United Methodist Church choir have a copy you can use. Soloist auditions are Wednesday, November 16, 2011 @ 7:00pm. If you are interested in singing a solo or solos, please come prepared to sing the solo in its entirety (you may or may not be asked to sing the whole selection)
