The time-honored Christmas Carriage Parade is just around the corner! On this special afternoon each year, the streets of downtown Parker are lined with families and eager children hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa. The Christmas Carriage Parade, presented by the Town of Parker and the Colorado Driving Society will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Town is offering wonderful advertising opportunities to local businesses and organizations who would like to help keep this tradition alive and receive valuable marketing exposure at the same time.

In addition to this “Beary Special” themed equestrian parade, the day’s activities will include a petting zoo, pony rides, holiday ice sculptures, a winter market and of course, pictures with Santa.

There are still a few sponsorship levels left for your business or organization to lock into. Don’t miss out on having your name/logo included in all marketing materials, news releases, calendar listings, Web site postings, event posters, announcements and programs. Reaching thousands of Parker residents each year, sponsorship of the Christmas Carriage Parade is an excellent opportunity to reach out to the community and its visitors.

For more information, contact Julie Wassell, Special Events and Fundraising Coordinator at jwassell@parkeronline.org or call 303.805.3253 directly. Hurry! Naming rights at the event are on a first-come, first-served basis!

Takoda Tavern hosting fundraiser for local with Lou Gehrig’s disease

Local Fundraiser August 27, 2011 at Takoda

Takoda Tavern Parker Colorado fundraiser august 2011

Takoda Tavern corner of Hess and Parker Rd in Parker CO

Takoda Tavern on Hess Road in Parker will have an event to raise funds for Parker resident Chris Virden, who has been living with Lou Gehrig’s disease – for four years

The fundraiser takes place from  3-7 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 27. 2011

The event will feature entertainment by local band “Bad Candy” (who just entertained Parker locals at O’Brien Park two weeks ago and a regular at Takoda), a motorcycle wash, raffle, silent auction and live bachelor auction. All funds raised during the event will be donated to the Virden family to provide for Virden’s continued care and comfort.

“Lou Gehrig’s is a horrible disease, and it is always fatal,” explained event planner Sooz Elliott, a long-time friend and massage therapist with Parker Day Spa. “Chris became completely paralyzed not long after he contracted the disease, so his brother and sister quit their jobs and moved in with him so he could remain at home. Their dedication has meant the world to Chris, but it also means that the family cannot pay for some basic needs and services that would make Chris more comfortable, such as nighttime care and vitamins.”

Elliott also said that donations for the silent auction and monetary donations before or after the event are welcomed.

For more information about the fundraiser or to make a donation, contact Sooz Elliott, 720-309-4775, susiemoongirl@ aol.com.

Thunder Bee Project

With help from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) grant, the Town of Parker addresses the rapid loss of honey bee hives both locally and nationally. Started by the Parker Cultural and Scientific Commission, the project encourages the education about bees and their role in nature, as well as replenishing the bee population in Parker. The Town of Parker currently maintains eight hives.

The Thunder Bee Project has inspired the annual Honey Festival in Parker with honey products, demonstrations and education. For more information on the Thunder Bee Project, contact Kelly Kuper at 303.805.3364 or by email.

White wrote the play to combine drama and comedy, and chose to center the piece on the main character named Charlie Fisher, played by Cameron Walter. As Charlie is ready to graduate with a degree in biochemistry, he runs into a problem: he hasn’t fulfilled the arts requirement. Unable to correct the school of the mistake, Charlie signs up for a classical music appreciation class and falls in love with his musician classmate Marie, played by Brittany Shaffer. In order to impress Marie, Charlie embarks on a semester long journey to discover his dormant artistic abilities as he creates The Rose Sonata, a dance piece. But as Charlie soon learns in this lighthearted comedy, there’s more to art than trying to impress.

“I hope for audiences to be thrilled by this unique piece that combines traditional play acting with elements of movement and dance, evoking and discovering emotion in new and exciting ways,” said White. “And having a few good laughs along the way.”

Tickets for all three performances are available at www.PACEcenteronline.org.

Fast Draw is a sport based on the romanticized art of the gunslingers in the American Old West, using traditional single action revolvers. Unlike Cowboy action shooting, Fast Draw is shot with special blanks orwax bullets. While some competitions are strictly against the clock, with the fastest time winning, many are set up as head to head single or double elimination matches.
