Citizen’s Police Academy Registration Open Now
Tickets are as tough to get as Hamilton, but it won’t cost you a couple of Benjamins…it’s our Citizen’s Police Academy.
Parker area residents are invited to attend the Parker Police Department’s 10-week Citizen’s Police Academy program. This program gives participants first-hand information about how the Police Department operates. Classes will focus on criminal law, mounted patrol, evidence, dispatch, traffic laws, accident reconstruction, DUI laws, K-9, youth education programs and many other topics. In addition to the interactive classes, there is an optional trip to the law enforcement firearms training facility where participants will have the opportunity to fire weapons used by the police officers. All attendees will also be invited to participate in a graduation at the end of the program.
The interactive workshops, combined with field trips and tours, requires a commitment of one night a week from 6 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks. All classes are held on Thursday nights, with the optional Saturday class at the shooting range.
All applicants are subject to a background check. Anyone with the following convictions on their criminal record will not be considered for participation:
o Any felony conviction.
o Any sexual assault against an adult or child at any time.
o Any domestic violence conviction
Last year, the class filled up in less than two hours and then a wait list was started. In an effort to meet the high demand for our Citizen’s Academy, we have expanded the class size from 35 to 40 and we now offer a spring and fall Academy.
