Camp Out at PACE this summer
Summer is camping season and fun for kids of all ages at the Parker Arts, Culture and Events (PACE) Center. The PACE Center offers camps in visual arts, music, theatre and science, so it’s a great time to learn something new and have fun too.
ROCK STAR CAMP
New this year, PACE has camps for little rock stars and aspiring songwriters. Learn to play or write the music you like to listen to.
Rock Star Camp for beginning and intermediate guitar students who want to play popular songs starts June 18 for ages 7 to 12 and 13 to 18. Do your kids write their own songs or want to learn how? Join us for Songwriter Camp for ages 7 to 18 starting July 9. This intensive six day camp is for intermediate and advanced students of guitar, voice or keyboard who want to sing and play their own words and tunes.
A typical day at either of these music camps includes group activities and learning based on popular songs, individual instruction and practice, “band skills” among small groups playing together, lots of listening to good music and perfecting performance technique. Classes will culminate in a final performance on the last day of the camp.
ROCKET BLAST & SPACE CHASE CAMP
A specialty of the PACE Center is science and engineering camps. Camps that explore the universe include Rocket Blast Camp and Space Chase Camp for ages 6 to 12.
Be sure to sign up early for the popular camps for young engineers including Engineering with LEGO® Camps or the new Jedi Engineering Camps, which combine space age projects with learning about architecture and engineering. Explore the mechanics of flight in Flight Club to build airplanes, helicopters, parachutes and moreor tear up the terrain with Remote Controlled Cars and Hobbies Camp.
icamp™
icamp™ from Children’s Technology Workshop returns this year with full and half day camps in June that allow kids to design their own video games, build LEGO robots, film movies and create digital songs.
THEATER CAMPS
PACE offers many different theater camps for kids to explore acting and performance skills in a fun environment. Each camp concludes with a mini-performance for friends and family. Classic Acts, a resident children’s theater group, runs several Theatre Camps for kids ranging in ages from 5 to 16. KidStage Camp for kids ages 6 to 12 allows children to perform in a performance of WONKA! Dylan’s Down with the Arts offers a theater camp for individuals with special needs who have an interest in musical theater.
HEROES DESTINY CAMPS
New this year are role-playing adventure camps. The Heroes Destiny Camps get kids outside and on their feet for fun interactive adventures playing fantasy heroes battling goblins, bartering with dwarves and camping with elves. Featuring safety-minded Quest Leaders, these swashbuckling adventures use foam swords and shields and are offered for ages 6 to 9 and 10 to 17.
KIDZ ART CAMPS
KidzArt Camps have several sessions this summer from preschoolers to 5 to 11 year olds. Sessions include Paint, Draw & Design like a Famous Artist, So You Want to be a World Explorer and Discover!
