Over 200 people participated in Arbor day at Railbender Skate and Tennis Park

Arbor day planting in parker coloradoOver 200 people gathered their families, gloves and shovels and joined other Parker residents to plant trees at Railbender Skate and Tennis Park for Parker’s Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday morning.  Fueled with coffee, hot chocolate and donuts provided by the Town, volunteers were ready and willing to pitch in and help beautify and “green-up” this new park.

Each year the Town chooses a location in need of trees and holds the annual tree-planting event the Saturday after national Arbor Day.   On Saturday morning, 46 trees of different varieties including elm, maple, oak, pines and larch trees were planted and the crowd was ready for more!

“It’s great to see how the interest in this event has grown so quickly over the years,” says Erik Stadsvold, Forestry and Open Space Supervisor.

After planting the trees, event volunteers enjoyed tree pruning demonstrations and received rain gauges, tree pins, planting information and other Arbor Day memorabilia.  Volunteers were even able to take home bushels of Heavy Metal Switch Grass, saved from the roundabout landscaping that was removed on Mainstreet.

The Town of Parker was pleased to continue the tradition and celebrate this important event.
