On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, an estimated 100,000 older adults will participate in local fitness activities throughout the country as part of the 19th annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day® (NSHFD), the nation’s largest health promotion event for older adults.
To celebrate this day, Parker Parks and Recreation will host the fourth annual event.
Wednesday May 30, 2012
Senior Stroll at O’Brien Park
10795 Victorian Dr.Parker, CO 80134
This free event features a one-mile fun walk on the paved Cherry Creek Trail followed by delicious refreshments, socializing with friends and exciting prize giveaways. Registration for the event is not required.
“Older adults at all levels of physical fitness are encouraged to participate in National Senior Health & Fitness Day,” says Patricia Henze, NSHFD program manager. “Our goals for Senior Day are to make exercise fun, to increase awareness of the benefits of a regular exercise program for older adults and to encourage all older adults to take advantage of the many health and fitness programs offered in their communities.”
In addition to events like the Senior Stroll, Parker Parks and Recreation offers many programs for active older adults including SilverSneakers®, Golden and Gentle Yoga, Tai Chi, Aqua Aerobics, Zumba Gold®, 50 softball and volleyball, pickleball and much more.
SilverSneakers member Dora Goins participates in several of the programs that Parker Recreation has to offer, including the annual Senior Stroll. Since starting her fitness routine she has noticed an increase in strength and energy and has met a lot of new friends.
“People are so nice and many of the classes don’t even feel like exercise, it’s just fun!” says Goins.
Thank you to our 2012 event sponsors, Humana and Life Care Center of Stonegate.
