Josh Rivero and each candidate running for Town of Parker Mayor or Town Council was invited to place an article here to educate residents about their platforms. Feel free to ask questions in the comments below.

Joshua Rivero has a unique perspective on the Town of Parker.

Meet the Candidates: Joshua Rivero for Parker Town CouncilAs the owner of Fika Coffee House in downtown since April 2008, he has heard – and  listened to – all types of comments from residents expressing their views about what the Town is doing right or wrong. As a result, he’s received a wide range of input from residents. Now that the coffee house is established and doing well, Joshua has time to seek a seat on the Town Council, where he hopes to put all of those public comments to good use, representing Parker’s residents and providing for their needs.

He also plans to use the expertise that he has gained during his 25 years in the restaurant business, including his debt-free operation of the Parker coffee shop. Among his top priorities are working with the town’s Economic Development Department to bring more businesses to the area to meet the community’s needs, seeing neighborhoods built-out, filling vacant commercial properties, while creating more activities for teens and taking care of the Town’s aging population.

This isn’t Joshua’s first endeavor into community service. He became involved in the now-absorbed Downtown Development Council shortly after purchasing Fika in 2008. He served as its president for two years, beginning in the fall of 2009. While at the DDC, Joshua was involved in bringing the Farmer’s Market back to Mainstreet and in creating many of the downtown events the Parker Chamber Commerce now runs magnificently and the citizens enjoy regularly.

After living in Sweden for two years with his wife, Anna, who he met in 2001 at Metro State, the couple moved to Parker in 2006. They now live in Idyllwilde with their two children, a 5-year-old son, August, and 3-year-old daughter, Astrid.
