Meet the Candidates Town of Parker Colorado
Adele Laurent Candidate for Mayor of Parker Colorado 2012
“First I want to thank you for the opportunity to be heard by the voters of Parker.”
After a tragic accident (breaking my neck) I retired from a very successful career of over 30 years and moved to Parker and Stroh Ranch. I was a Professional High Diver and Cliff Diver, performing and competing around the world on venues such as ABC Wide World of Sports, NBC Sports World, CBS, Outdoor Life, public television and many others as a professional athlete and entertainer, world record holder and world champion. I had an amazing career as an athlete and thank God every day for the opportunities I’ve had, the people I’ve met, and the obstacles I’ve had to overcome in my life.
All of which I believe makes me the strongest candidate for Mayor of Parker. All my life I have strived to be the best that I could be, leading the way for many women in sports. Stepping up to do the job when no one else was willing to take that step, and yes, sometimes biting off more than I could chew but always thinking about what was best for the group as a whole rather than myself.
I originally joined the race for Mayor because it appeared there was going to be only one candidate, a candidate who has never been Mayor.
I believe in America we should have choices and if you are willing to put up a fight and compete for something then you will appreciate the victory even more than having it handed to you. I stepped up because I wanted to serve and to be that choice. I do not currently own a business in Parker yet I understand that we need to support our local businesses. Yes, I am new to the world of public office, but I have no conflicts, I am a fellow citizen who knows that I can influence positive changes in Parker.
Being a very involved citizen since moving to Parker has given me an excellent rapport with and understanding of our community. It is important to me as the Mayor of Parker to work as a mentor to Town Council guiding their focus toward issues that work:
- To control spending and work for a balanced conservative budget.
- To encourage filling empty commercial spaces and find new opportunities for expansion.
- To grow and help existing merchants.
- Supporting family and community safety.
- Supporting parks, recreation and open space.
- To help Parker’s future grow and flourish
- I know that I will be a strong representative of the Town in local, regional and national venues.
I plan to continue “being a positive role model” to our youth by speaking about the importance of involvement in the community. I plan on visiting schools, churches and youth groups. I look to help teach our children that by working together as a family, a community and getting involved, we can make change that will benefit the community as a whole.
I was blessed to be recently recognized by the Town of Parker for many years of service to the Parker Cultural Commission. I have also been a member of the Parker Cultural & Scientific Committee, the Town of Parker’s liaison to the Douglas County Art Encounter Program from May 2007 – 2011 and a member of Parker’s Art in Public Places Committee from 2009 – 2011.
It’s important to me that the community of Parker has a Mayor and Town Council that has a balance which represents the community through gender, race and age. The maturity that comes with rich life experience is a characteristic I will bring to the leadership of Town Council.
That is why I am running to be your next Mayor of Parker.
