The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other government, community, public health and law enforcement partners are part of the nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back” initiative that seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and health issue. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.
Items that cannot be dropped off include needles and sharps, Mercury thermometers, chemotherapy and radioactive substances, pressurized canisters and illicit drugs.
For more information about Parker’s drop off location, please call Officer Dawn Cashman at 303.841.9800. For more information about National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, go to www.dea.gov.
