Parker residents just love their dogs and the Town of Parker is here to help. Barker Days is here again, an opportunity to spend the day with your dog at the park and the pool. This highly anticipated celebration of dogs is happening as O’Brien Park ball field and the H2O’brien pool are turned over to the dogs as a temporary dog park and doggie dipping pond.

Fee: $5 residents per dog $7 non-residents per dog their accompanying humans are free.

It is HIGHLY recommended that you pre-register your dog for this event. They have and will sell out! Pre-Registration link

Dogs (and their humans) who pre-register will have expedited check in and receive a “doggie bag” of treats, courtesy of local businesses. For additional event information, call Meagan Parker Recreation Center at 303.841.4500 or email mnakashima@parkeronline.org.

Kids are welcome at the event however all dogs MUST have an adult present. (18 or older)

The event includes:

  • - Dog Demonstrations
  • - Doggie paddle in the neutralized, dog-only pool
  • - Chase balls and frisbees in the baseball fields
  • - Enter speed and trick contests
  • - Check out the agility course and demonstrations
  • - Little guys can romp in the small dog play area
  • - Rub noses with local, dog-friendly businesses

H2O’brien pool will have been closed for the season to humans and all chemicals neutralized so that it’s now  dog-friendly. Even if you don’t have a dog, watching the happy splashing dogs in the pool is a treat for everyone.

A separate play area will be provided for small dogs under 25 pounds that prefer to play with friends their own size.

Please read all the rules below to make this a safe event for all dogs, kids and dog owners.

“In order to ensure a fun and safe event, owners are asked to follow certain guidelines at the event.”

All dogs must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.

  • Please, no more than two dogs per adult.
  • Kids are welcome at the event, but may not be solely responsible for any dog and should be closely supervised.
  • Dogs must wear a current rabies tag and ID tag at all times.
  • Dogs are able to run freely within event boundaries, but it is important to keep a watchful eye on your dog.
  • Owners are liable for their pets’ behavior and are responsible for keeping their dogs under control and within event boundaries.
  • Leashes are required outside of the fenced event area and should be kept handy at all times.
  • Owners are responsible for picking up after their own dogs; disposable bags will be provided.
  • Dogs in heat, puppies under four months or who have not had final shots, aggressive dogs and dogs who are sick may not attend. The owner of any dog displaying mounting behavior must immediately leash and remove the dog from the situation.
  • Owners are liable for their pets and are responsible for keeping their dogs within event boundaries.

Art in the Park sponsored by the Parker Artists Guild, is celebrating it 9th annual juried art and fine craft show.

Parker Aritst Guild annual art show Art in the Park is coming august 2010 to O'brien Park, parker co.

Many art forms will be represented including:

  • painting in a wide variety of media,
  • drawing,
  • pastels,
  • pottery,
  • jewelry,
  • photography,
  • wood working,
  • glass,
  • sculpture and more.

There will live entertainment in the gazebo both days. The Parker Chorale and an ensemble from the Denver Performing Arts HS will perform on Saturday and Sunday.

The Town of Parker, Sunday afternoon concert will be from 1 to 3 pm.

This is a family friendly event with things for the kids to do including a face painting booth (for a small charge)  and a childrens art station sponsored by The Academy of Art in Parker where you create your own art project.

Soft drinks, snacks and hot entrée lunches will be sold both days.

The art show is sponsored by the Parker Artists Guild (PAG) of Parker. PAG membership includes artists from Parker, Castle Rock, Aurora, Highlands Ranch, Douglas and Elbert County and the south metro area.
Membership is open to all media. PAG was formed in 2001 and has grown to about 200 members this year. Our mission is to promote the visual arts and raise awareness of local artists in the community. August marks the beginning of the traditional school calendar so to bid farewell to summer the Parker Recreation Department is offering a Back 2 School Skate.

Students can start the new school year off right at the second annual Back 2 School Skate! Grab your skates and bring a friend!

Join your classmates and show off your skating skills and school spirit.  Activities will include skating games such as spider races, crab races, the classic limbo and wolf tag. In addition, the Pinnacle climbing wall will be open and available for FREE use from 6 to 8 p.m.  Remember to bring your own skates and a waiver signed by your parent in order to climb.  Don’t forget to wear your school colors because the school with the most skaters will win a special prize!

Advance tickets are $5 are now available for purchase at the Parker Fieldhouse. Tickets will be $6 at the door and you can get $1 off with a canned food donation for the Parker Task Force. Non-skating parents are admitted free.

Drop your kids off for Parent’s Night Out on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 6 to 11 p.m.  Spend the night out with family and friends while kids stay active with our recreation staff.

Everyone can enjoy an evening of PLAY!  Turf, gym and inline games will keep the kiddos active and burning energy.

Organized games and activities will be led by experienced recreation staff to keep participants entertained the whole night.  The climbing wall will be open for a portion of the night so be sure to have a climbing wall waiver signed in advance or be prepared to sign one at check-in. Open inline skating will also be held, but skates are not provided.

For those kids who need a break from the action, short family-friendly movies will be shown. Coloring activities and other crafts will also be available and as an added bonus, karaoke will be featured for those aspiring pop-stars!

Send the kids with athletic shoes, skates, water bottles and snacks or give them some money for concessions and vending machines.  Hot dogs, pizza, pretzels and much more will be available for purchase.

Registration for individual children is open online at www.ParkerRec.com. The fee is $15 for the first child and $10 for each additional sibling. NOTE: Registration fees will increase by $5 per child one week prior to the event.
