Castle Rock Adventure Club preschool registration lottery opens

The Town’s preschool is changing the way it conducts its registrations and is adding a new option to its offerings.

Registration for Adventure Club preschool programs has been done by lottery in recent years, due to the programs’ popularity. That will change this year, and registration will be done on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Jan. 9.

Registration forms will be available both at the Recreation Center and online at CRgov.com/adventureclub. Those with children currently in the program must participate in the registration process.

Also new this year for Adventure Club is the option of a five-day pre-kindergarten program. Previously, pre-kindergarten only was offered three days a week.

Now, pre-K classes – for children ages 4 and 5 – will be offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to 11:45 a.m. or 12:30 to 3:15 p.m. or Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 3:15 p.m.

Preschool classes – for children ages 3 and 4 – will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:45 a.m. or 12:30 to 3:15 p.m.

Classes are held at the Castle Rock Recreation Center and will run from September 2012 through May 2013.

Both programs are state-licensed, continuous school year programs. All participants must have an up-to-date immunization record and a health physical and emergency card on file.

Preschool participants must turn 3 by Oct. 1 and pre-K students must turn 4 by that same date.

Monthly preschool tuition is $130 for residents and $165 for nonresidents. Monthly pre-K tuition is $170 for residents and $205 for nonresidents for the three-day-a-week class and $285 ($325 nonresident) for the five-day. A nonrefundable $90 deposit is due upon registration.

Prospective participants who do not get a spot during registration will be placed on a waiting list. Castle Rock residents will be given priority over non-residents.

Castle Rock confirms their new police chief: Jack Cauley

Jack Cauley confirmed as Castle Rock’s new police chief

A 25-year police veteran and current deputy chief of the Overland Park Kansas Police Department will lead Castle Rock’s Police Department beginning in the new year, Town Council confirmed Tuesday.

Council voted unanimously to ratify Town Manager Mark Stevens’ recommendation that John (Jack) Cauley be appointed the Town’s new police chief, effective January 3, 2011.

Cauley succeeds former Chief Tony Lane, who retired in September after 24 years with the department.

“I am humbled and honored to have been appointed to the position of chief of police for the Town of Castle Rock,” Cauley said Tuesday. “My family and I are excited about moving to Castle Rock and becoming active members of the community.”

Cauley began his law enforcement career as a police dispatcher with the Lenexa Kansas Police Department. He has spent the last 25 years with the Overland Park department, serving at all levels and in nearly all areas, including patrol, investigations, traffic, professional standards and crime analysis. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a master of public administration from the University of Kansas and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

The lifelong Midwesterner is moving to Colorado to join his wife, Deanna. She has lived in the Denver metro area for about a year while working for Red Robin restaurants.

“I believe Jack is an excellent fit for our department, organization and community, with the skills, abilities, experience, knowledge and attitude to be an outstanding Castle Rock police chief,” Stevens said regarding Cauley’s appointment. “I believe he brings the balance of outstanding high-level public safety and law enforcement skills and experience, with the leadership and management approaches and capabilities we need.”

Cauley was selected from among 186 applicants for the post – a high number that reflects the Town’s reputation as a desired community in which to live and practice law enforcement. Police Department and other Town employees, along with community and Council members, were involved in selecting Cauley as the Town’s new police chief.

Cauley said during the interview process that he intends to spend his first months as police chief listening to and getting to know the department and the community.

“Former Chief of Police Tony Lane built a solid, professional Police Department,” he said. “I look forward to building on that success, with a focus on people, innovation and community.”
